It seems holidays are never too long, now my spring festival holiday will finish in two days ( we will go back to work on 27th).  How relaxing and cozy to stay at home, free from burden of work, no worries about complicated relations, just indulging yourself in a carefree long holiday!
Recalling the past days, I realize that I have almost done nothing else but stay with my family, watching TV programs or movies, playing cards, or going to a few spots in the city.  Frank, my son, has learned how to play tractor during the days and becomes so crazy about the game.  Every day, he just kept pushing us to play it with him.  Obviously, the boy’s skills are improving after days of polishing.
Another thing we have done together is that we finished Cambridge English for younger learners, III(Flyers).  The official test will be due in late March so we don’t have much time left.  We finished the book yesterday, the last day of my spring festival holiday. It was a bit hard for the kid because we had to finish one unit every two days, but so far so good. He has mastered most of them.   Most importantly, he enjoys doing it though he also complained a little sometimes.
Many things will be looming ahead of me when I go back to the office.  Meetings, and preparations for our conference in the Maldives.  All of these will take up a lot of time.  However, as an old saying goes, well begun, half done.  It’s good for me to get myself busy at the beginning of the year.  As a foreign friend greeted me in his mail, “Gong Xi Fa Cai!” I’ve got to work hard, I’ve got to make more money, I’ve got to enjoy more of my life.
And I do wish every one of you would enjoy your daily life…And all the best.  Just take it my late greetings for your year of the pig.
Health and happiness in the new year, my dear buddies!

Don’t be scared by the title, buddies—-Why and when has humble Allen turned into a swashbuckler overnight? Well, be patient and I’d tell you what has really happened.
Our company held a great gathering at Gloria Hotel last night, during which the enigma of the game ” The Angel and The Master” would be disclosed.  For a whole week before the party, everybody in the company had been involved in a game called ” The Angel and The Master”.  According to the rule, I could be the angel of somebody while the master of somebody else.  The master would request his/her angel to satisfy the wishes during the week, failing which he/she would be “punished” at the party. You could asked someone else ( your agent) to fulfil the task for you.  The ultimate purpose was try not to let your master know you were his/her angel.
I was so lucky to have a kind master, who only asked me ( or my agent) to sing a song every day.  Heehee…peanuts… However, when I was doing it, I found it not that easy. If I sang for my master every day, she could recognize me without any effort.  So…, I must try to make a trap for my master.  I asked different persons to give a performance for her ( my master was a girl).  The first day, my first agent sang a very funny song to her, trying to disguise his voice so that she could not tell it. And he made it! We both burst into laughter when my master was speechless at the other end of the telephone line.
The following days were totally a mess. Though I asked one person to sing for her every day, I found at leat three or even four guys had done it for her.  We happened to have a meeting with Canadians, and I asked one of them to sing a song for her with his own mobile phone—a costly song indeed! My poor master!  She was totally lost in a well=knitted net!
It was only my own story…You can imagine what it would be if everyone in the company was doing the same thing during that terrible week…A sheer mess!Haahaa!
Let me come to the end now. My master finally dug me out from a labyrinth of complications, what a smart girl she was! At last, her angel had to show up at the party and sang a song in front of her….It was The Last Waltz…Heehee.
Then how about my own angel? I didn’t expect it had taken quite a lot efforts for him to fulfil..I thought it was simple but finally proved difficult. I requested my angel to buy a CD of Mantovani, a famous light music band. I checked on Dangdang and Joyo and it was available there, so I thought he/she might fulfil it with a single click of the finger.  Time flew by but there was no response from angel.   I was required to leave on a trip to Kunming early last week and I lost hope of my angel and regarded him/her a degenerate angel.  During the trip, I was told my angel had fulfilled my wish beyond the time limit…He was “degenerate” indeed…
At the party, I was greatly touched by the story elaborated by my angel when he was trying to make his master contented. He was also away on a business trip and he asked her wife to buy the CD, only to find Joyo and Dangdang had no stock at all. He finally managed to get one, but it was already too late. It was really a dilemma for him to balance between his work and the wish from his master…haahaa.
We all enjoyed the game a lot, which made us closer other than working relations.  The game has made me a queer combination of a master and an angel, and I really enjoy switching between the two roles…a lot of fun.
The Valentine’s Day is coming, I sincerely wish everyone of you will have your own angel who is trying to make your sweet dreams come true!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

To All My Friends

A friend of mine recommended an essay which clicked on me quickly. It really offers me some enlightening insights in life.  I’d like to share it with you along with some comments. I’d like your input, too.  Here we go!
                           To All My Friends…

To my friends who are SINGLE, Love is like a butterfly.

The more you chase it, the more it eludes you. But if you just let it fly it will come to you when you least expect it.

Love can make you happy but often it hurts, but love is only special when you give it to someone who is really worth it.

So take your time and choose the best.

( I was single, and this really clicked on me. Love is sheer luck, or fate. You may get nothing even if you pursue it arduously, while it may well be right there waiting for you when you pass by without a tinge of advertence)

To my friends who are Not So SINGLE
Love isn’t about becoming somebody else’s “perfect person”

It is about finding someone who helps you become the best person you can be.

(Accepting a person means you admire his/her merits and tolerate the demerits. Never expect your partner to be a saint or god, and even saint or god makes mistakes. Love is blind, that is the case.)

To my friends who are ENGAGED

The true measure of compatibility is not the years spent together But how good you are each other.

( When you’re engaged with him/her, it also means the commencement of shouldering the responsibility mutually in your future life, no matter it is felicity or sorrow, happiness or misery, or ups and downs.)

To my friends who are MARRIED

Love is not about “it’s your fault” but “I am sorry”

not “where are you ” but “I am right here for you “

not “how could you” but “I understand”

not “I wish you were”but ” I am thankful you are”

(Always put yourself in the other part’s shoes, then you may be more sympathetic and understand him/her more.)

Never say I love you if you don’t care. Never talk about feelings if they aren’t there. Never touch a life if you mean to break a heart. Never look in the eye when all you do is lie.

( Never be a playboy or a playgirl…or you’ll face the music. Heehee)

To my friends who are HEARTBROKEN

Heartbreaks last as long as you want and cut as deep as you allow them to go

The challenge is not how to survive heartbreaks But to learn form them.

( Keep in mind it is not the end of the world, and the wounds will heal with time. Take a more positive stance and treat it and good lesson in your life.)

To my friends who are NAIVE
How to be in love

Be consistent but not too persistent, share and never be unfair, Understand and try not to demand, get hurt but never keep the pain.

(A sword has two edges, naivety diminishes vigilance, while it brings about unexpected hurts sometimes. Be forgetful when you are in love, then distress will not stay.)

To my friends who Are POSSESSIVE

It breaks your heart to see the one you love Happy with someone else

But it’s more painful to know that the one you love is unhappy with you .

(You can never be the master of the other, and you are equal)

To ALL friends

My wish for you is a man\woman whose love is: honest, strong, mature, protective, encouraging, rewarding and unselfish

(Though we can never be perfect, we have the right to pursue the above virtues).

Spring Festival is drawing near, and time for going home again. These days, many colleagues and friends are racking their brains to scramble for a ticket home, and I really know too well how distracting it is..However, it is Spring Festival–a time for reunion, and we will go home no mater where we are.
I’d like to share a song with all those who are or will be going home recently. Wish you enjoy a wonderful time with your family and all the best for you in the coming new year.
Paul Simon and Garfunkel’s Homeward Bound:
I’m sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket for my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And ev’ry stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Ev’ry day’s an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories
And ev’ry stranger’s face I see reminds me that I long to be,
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.

Tonight I’ll sing my songs again,
I’ll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Silently for me.
